The population and sample used are all data and reports on school participation rates, illiterate residents, and the number of poor people. which has been published by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Padangsidimpuan City from 2005 to 2018. Data collection techniques using non-participant observations or data obtained indirectly or through intermediary media (obtained and recorded by other parties). The data analysis of this research used multiple linear regression, t test, f test, and coefficient of determination test.Based on the results of the research data analysis, it can be concluded that the variable school participation rate has a negative and significant influence on the number of poor people in Padangsidimpuan City. This is evidenced by the coefficient of the school participation number of -0.042 with a probability value of 0.005 <0.05. While the illiteracy population variable has a positive and significant influence on the number of poor people in Padangsidimpuan City. This is evidenced by the coefficient value of the school participation rate variable of 2,973 with a probability value of 0.005 < 0.05. Simultaneous calculation results show that the variables of the school participation rate and the illiterate population jointly affect the dependent variable of the number of poor people in Padangsidimpuan City. The results of the coefficient of determination test obtained are 0.798 or 79.8%. This means that 79.8% of the variables of the number of poor people in the city of Padangsidimpuan can be explained by the independent variables, namely the school participation rate and the illiterate population.
