Buiding up the Student's Speaking Skill Through Public Speaking

Abstract

ABSTRACT

Speaking has the two important subjects such as accuracy and fluency, accuracy means about the skill vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, while the fluency are about speaking spontaneously. Delivering speak in front of many people is called as a public speaking. It is not simple to speak in front of public, because everyone has to have a good ability, a good grammar, a good attitude and have a wide background knowledge. The place of this research is Darul Mursyidi Islamic boarding school. They are12 students of the eleventh year students who lived at dormitory. This public speaking is the extracurricular program for the students. It is done three times a week. Classroom Action Research is chosen as the research method, for the research’s aim is to improve the students’ speaking ability through public speaking. There are many conclusions can be drawn in this research, such as: the students speaking skill through public speaking is improved in cycle 1 and cycle 2. It can be seen from their average score since the pretest average score is 66, but their average score in cycle 1 is 75 and cycle 2 is 80. At first, the student’s pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary are need to correct. Their understanding towards the context of public speaking is far from good. Finally, at cycle 2 the students’ pronunciation is improved, their grammar error and vocabulary’s mistakes are decreased. Their performance is good and they deliver their speech fluently.
